Abstract

Climate change has emerged as one of the most significant threats to global food security, with far-reaching consequences for agricultural production, food availability, economic access, nutrition, and the stability of food systems. Rising global temperatures, changing precipitation patterns, prolonged droughts, floods, heatwaves, sea-level rise, and increasingly frequent extreme weather events are transforming the environmental conditions under which food is produced and distributed. This research article examines the relationship between climate change and global food security through an integrated analysis of environmental, economic, social, and institutional factors. The study adopts a qualitative research methodology based on a systematic review and thematic analysis of academic literature, scholarly books, peer-reviewed journal articles, and reports published before 2025 by international organizations and research institutions. The theoretical framework integrates the Food Security Framework, Sustainable Livelihoods Approach, Vulnerability Theory, and Climate Resilience Perspective. The analysis demonstrates that climate change threatens food security by reducing crop and livestock productivity, disrupting fisheries, increasing water scarcity, damaging food infrastructure, raising food prices, and undermining rural livelihoods. The impacts are particularly severe in developing countries and among smallholder farmers, low-income households, women, and communities with limited adaptive capacity. However, climate-smart agriculture, agricultural diversification, improved water management, technological innovation, social protection, ecosystem conservation, and international cooperation can strengthen food-system resilience. The study concludes that achieving global food security in a changing climate requires coordinated policies integrating climate mitigation, adaptation, sustainable agricultural development, poverty reduction, and equitable access to resources.
